11 restaurant executives on the move in December

Restaurant C-suite appointments did not slow down in the final month in 2021.

There were two retirement announcements from casual-dining companies, including that of Gene Lee, CEO of Darden Restaurants. While he will remain on through this quarter, he announced his retirement last month, and his successor was unanimously elected.

There were several promotions across the industry, including a new CEO at convenience-store chain Sheetz. At fast-casual Wingstop, senior vice president of people Donnie Upshaw also took on a new role within the company.

At Donatos, an executive who was previously with the chain from 1990-2003 returned, taking over the role of president from CEO Tom Krouse, who retains that title.
