Quiznos strikes franchise deal in Brazil

Quiznos reported Wednesday a franchise agreement in Brazil that is expected to result in the development of 200 sandwich shops there, including seven to open by the end of this year.

Denver-based Quiznos, like many other restaurant chains, has been aggressively pushing growth overseas. The chain recently announced plans to move into India and Kuwait, where their first locations are expected to open by the end of July.

Quiznos officials say they plan to grow the brand into more than 40 countries and territories, targeting Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The more than 3,500-unit chain includes 600 units in international locations.

In Brazil, the franchisee is Brazil Best Food Inc., or BBF, which is the franchisor of other concepts in fine dining and retail.

Quiznos said BBF is “well-positioned in the real estate sector,” which will help the franchisee find high-visibility, high-traffic locations in Brazil.

Quiznos chef Zach Calkins is scheduled to travel to Brazil to work with the franchisee to develop local menu enhancements.

“Along with a growing economy in Brazil, there is a rapidly emerging market niche for a fast, warm lunch,” Luiz Antonelli, BBF president, said in a statement. “Quiznos’ colorful ambiance and warm, toasted sandwiches are well-suited for Brazilian tastes, and their exemplary training program, executive accessibility, flexibility in menu development and operational excellence make them the ideal partner for us in Brazil.”
