Bob Evans Restaurants was founded in 1948 by Bob Evans himself in New Albany, Ohio, as a family-dining restaurant with a country-home theme. Evans came up with the idea while packaging sausage at his farm and selling it to neighbors. When it became popular, Evans created Bob Evans Farms Inc. in 1953, which turned into Bob Evans Sausage and was run by his brother-in-law until his death in 2000.
The first restaurant on the farm was created in 1962 and called “The Sausage Shop.” At that time the company operated both a restaurant business and a meat distribution plant. In 2017, the two brands began their separation with the sale of Bob Evans Restaurants to Golden Gate Capital, while Bob Evans Farms remained with the previous owners.
