Starbucks names company veteran as chief partner officer

Lucy Lee Helm will oversee the coffeehouse chain’s employee organization

Starbucks Corp. has named Lucy Lee Helm chief partner officer, the company said on Wednesday.

Helm, an 18-year Starbucks veteran who had been general counsel, will oversee human resources, which the operator calls the “Partner Resources Organization.” Starbucks calls its employees “partners.”

Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson announced the appointment in a letter to employees on Wednesday.

“Lucy is ideal for this role,” he wrote. “During her years at Starbucks, she has held a variety of important positions that have, in sum, given her a comprehensive understanding of Starbucks operations and our unique culture.”

Johnson said that Paul Mutty, senior vice president and deputy general counsel, would serve as the interim leader of Starbucks’ Law & Corporate Affairs unit. The company has started a search for Helm’s permanent replacement as general counsel.
