Fast-casual Mexican chain Taco Cabana has introduced “Fajitas Puebla Tacos” as a limited-time offer through early- to mid-October.
Available with steak or chicken, the tacos are topped with pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, chopped bacon and a new avocado sauce made with avocados, jalapeños, sour cream, cilantro and lime juice.
The Fajitas Puebla Tacos start at $2.49 each, or $6.79 for a plate, which has two tacos, rice, beans, two flour tortillas and includes a trip to the salsa bar.
Corporate chef Smokey Waters said in a release that the sauce was inspired by an avocado salsa that the culinary team saw at street stands during a trip to Mexico last year.
"We added our own spin by using sour cream to give it a smoother texture and a richer flavor," he said.
The use of avocado sauce comes after the nationwide promotion of that fruit by quick-service sandwich chain Subway, which touted avocado puree as a tie-in with the film The Green Lantern earlier this summer.
San Antonio-based Taco Cabana has 156 units and is a subsidiary of Carrols Restaurant Group.
