SCOTTSDALE Ariz. Multiconcept operator Star Buffet Inc. here has completed its purchase of 16 Barnhill’s Buffet restaurants, part of a Pensacola, Fla., chain that had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last December.
The acquisition by Star Buffet Management Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Star Buffet, included Barnhill’s units in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Star Buffet, in a statement issued in early February, said it was continuing to negotiate the purchase of additional Barnhill’s units.
Star Buffet and its subsidiaries also operate 12 franchised HomeTown Buffets, seven JB’s Family restaurants, five Whistle Junction restaurants and four BuddyFreddys restaurants. The company also operates three 4B’s restaurants, three Holiday House Family restaurants, three Western Sizzlin restaurants, two K-Bob’s Steakhouses, two JJ North's Country Buffet, one Pecos Diamond Steakhouse, one Bar H Steakhouse and one Casa Bonita Mexican theme restaurant.
Barnhill's Buffet was acquired in 2005 by Dynamic Management Co. of Madison, Tenn., and Jefferies Capital Partners of New York. At that time, the buffet chain had 41 units.
