Ruby Tuesday adds brunch to menu

MARYVILLE Tenn. Looking to tap into the growing popularity of brunch, Ruby Tuesday said Wednesday it has rolled out its four-course Sunday brunch menu nationwide after a successful test earlier this year.

The 900-unit casual-dining chain's brunch includes biscuits, yogurt parfaits, a choice of entree and chocolate chip cookies. Brunch entree options range from mini eggs Benedict and breakfast quesadillas to specialty omelets and fruit-filled crepes.

“We are reviving this once-common meal occasion in our restaurants because we believe our guests appreciate and value their time with family and friends,” said Sandy Beall, founder and chief executive of Ruby Tuesday. “This is a way to give them something special during slower-paced Sundays, with classic and contemporary brunch dishes served with gracious hospitality.”

The brunch menu is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays, though Ruby Tuesday said some locations would offer it on Saturdays as well. According to an online menu, prices ranged from $10.99 to $13.99.

Brunch is growing in popularity, according to a recent study from The NPD Group. The market research firm found that brunch traffic had increased 8 percent during the first eight months of 2009, compared with the same period a year ago.

Ruby Tuesday began testing brunch earlier this year at 50 stores and expanded the test in August to hundreds more units after receiving positive guest feedback.

The move to expand brunch is the latest in Ruby Tuesday's ongoing revitalization efforts, which have included an upgraded decor and a significant menu revamp.
