Rodriguez to open Cuban eatery in Miami

MIAMI Chef Douglas Rodriguez announced plans this week to open another Miami restaurant, D. Rodriguez Cuba, at the Hotel Astor in South Beach.

Rodriguez, who recently made a celebrity appearance on “Top Chef Masters,” already has OLA in the Sanctuary Hotel in Miami as well as restaurants in Philadelphia and New York.

D. Rodriguez Cuba, which will offer Cuban cuisine and live music, is scheduled to open Dec. 1 in the space formerly held by La Maison D’Azur in the recently renovated hotel.

The menu will include such tapas as ham croquetas, bacalao fritters with garlic aioli and Cuban malanga tacos, as well as Nuevo Latino entrees like oxtail empanadas and casabe-crust tuna pizza.

“Despite Miami’s rich Cuban influence, there hasn’t been a prevalence of upscale Cuban cuisine offered here,” Rodriguez said. “D. Rodriguez Cuba taps into the true roots of this culture. We’ll be serving up the flavor of Havana – in both the culinary and atmospheric sense.”
