LOUISVILLE Ky. The people have spoken, and Democratic Sen. Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States.
Or at least so says KFC, based on the results of its “Left Wing, Right Wing” T-shirt promotion.
According to the latest sales figures, more than 41 percent of Americans who bought a KFC Political shirt bought blue “Left Wing” T-shirts, and about 29 percent bought red “Right Wing” T-shirts. Thirty percent of consumes are apparently still undecided. They opted for white “Left Wing, Right Wing: Tastes the Same to Me” shirts.
The promotion began in the summer, and KFC said it has sold hundreds of T-shirts. In addition to trying to generate voter enthusiasm for the upcoming presidential election, KFC will use proceeds from the T-shirt sales to benefit Colonel's Scholars, which provides college students nationwide with scholarships.
KFC sold the T-shirts on its website and in boutiques in Illinois and Arizona, the home states of Obama and Sen. John McCain, respectively. T-shirts still are available at www.kfc.com.
KFC is a division of Yum! Brands Inc., with more than 14,000 units worldwide.
