IHOP celebrates 50th birthday with new contest

GLENDALE Calif. IHOP has launched a national contest to kick off its 50th birthday celebration and will award the grand-prize winner free pancakes for life.

The “It Happens at IHOP” contest allows diners to submit stories about the heartwarming, unexpected or humorous events that they’ve experienced at an IHOP restaurant.

The grand-prize winner will receive one free short stack of pancakes a week for 20 years and a trip for two to New York to attend IHOP’s birthday celebration on July 7.

Five runners-up each will receive $100 IHOP gift cards. The promotion will run through May 31.

The first IHOP opened in Toluca Lake, Calif., in 1958. The chain now has 1,344 units in 49 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.
