Making an appeal to cash-strapped families with kids returning to school this month, IHOP said it would offer a kids-eat-free promotion at dinner through Aug. 31.
Children ages 12 and under can eat free off the “Just for Kids” menu with the purchase of an adult entrée from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Parent company DineEquity Inc. said the promotion is aimed at easing the financial burden on families, which will spend an average of $606.40 on clothes, shoes, school supplies and electronics to prepare for the upcoming school year, according to the National Retail Federation.
“The busy back-to-school season plus the added financial burden of school supplies makes for a hectic time for families,” said Carolyn O’Keefe, senior vice president of marketing at Glendale, Calif.-based IHOP. “With our August Kids Eat Free promotion, IHOP provides families with the chance to relax, connect and keep the family-focused fun of summer alive during this busy time period.”
IHOP ran a similar kids-eat-free promotion in April. For the latest quarter ended June 30, the 1,466-unit IHOP chain posted a same-store sales decline of 1 percent at domestic locations.
