LOS ANGELES California Pizza Kitchen Inc. will soon debut its first non-pizza frozen grocery item with a line of flatbread melt sandwiches.
As part of its partnership with Kraft, California Pizza Kitchen will introduce four varieties of microwaveable, single-serving flatbread melt sandwiches: carne asada; chicken-bacon club; chicken Santa Fe; and five-cheese with spinach. The sandwiches will be available in grocery stores for a suggested $3.49 each.
Kraft produces a line of frozen pizza products under the California Pizza Kitchen brand name in stores, a revenue-boosting relationship that CPK officials said they plan to expand.
Revenue from such grocery products totaled $6.6 million in 2008, a 40-percent increase over the previous year, officials said last week at the annual ICR Xchange investor conference in Dana Point, Calif.
Separately, CPK officials said they plan to bring back the popular Thank You Card loyalty program in the second quarter this year. Last year the program, which rewarded return visits with the offer of prizes and discounted meals, was credited with driving better-than-expected same-store sales in the second quarter 2008.
