Chipotle debuts iPhone ordering app

DENVER Chipotle Mexican Grill introduced on Tuesday a free application for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows customers to use their devices to place and pay for their orders.

The new ordering app comes as the more than 800-unit Chipotle rolls out an updated Web-based ordering system at www.chipotle.com. Customers can place orders through a secure credit card payment system that allows them to save their information for quick repeat orders. The new site also has an expanded group feature that lets customers place multiple item orders under a single name.

The app for the iPhone lets customers save their favorite orders and helps them find the nearest Chipotle. It can be downloaded for free from Apple’s App Store at www.itunes.com/appstore.

“The breakthrough iPhone and iPod touch have really given us the ability to deliver a compelling experience to customers, which includes simplicity, personality and attention to detail,” said Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-chief executive of Chipotle.

Chipotle joins Dallas-based Pizza Hut, which unveiled an ordering app for the iPhone and iPod touch earlier this summer. Within two weeks from its introduction, the app had surpassed 100,000 downloads, Pizza Hut said.
