Arby’s inks deal for 41 units in NYC area

ATLANTA Arby’s Restaurant Group said it has awarded development rights for 41 units in the New York City area to a new franchisee formed by Charles Chera, a local real estate developer and broker.

The deal calls for the restaurants to be opened over the next 10 years, Arby’s said. According to Chera, freestanding units will average 3,000 square feet and feature a drive-thru, while in-line stores in malls and onsite locations will measure about 2,500 square feet.

The units will be developed and run by the newly formed RCNY Restaurants LLC. Chera, a 30-year veteran of the real estate business, will serve as chairman and chief executive, Arby’s said. His sons Raymond and Ralph are slated to act as president and vice president, respectively.

Arby’s is a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Triarc Cos. Inc., which is in the process of buying Wendy’s International Inc. Arby’s operates or franchises about 3,565 quick-service sandwich restaurants in the United States.
