2023 Top 500 countdown: Restaurants ranked No. 50 – No. 1

Every year, Nation’s Restaurant News ranks the largest restaurant chains by domestic systemwide sales, giving a detailed look at the biggest players in the industry. This year, we once again partnered with Datassential and its Firefly platform to provide information for 500 chains.

2022’s numbers demonstrate an industry inching even closer to business as usual, stabilizing even as challenges such as inflation, a shallow labor pool and the supply chain persist. In fact, 91% of restaurant chains demonstrated growth in domestic systemwide sales last year. That includes 45 of the 50 biggest chains of all.

In this gallery, get sales and growth data for those chains ranked No. 50 to No. 1 in the United States in 2022 ranked by domestic systemwide sales. See restaurants from Firehouse Subs to McDonald’s, which had $48.7 billion in sales — a 5.9% increase year-over-year.

Restaurants in this group saw growth as high as 31.2% year-over-year — that number belonging to Raising Cane’s, ranked at No. 29. Here’s a look at the performance of some of the country’s largest restaurant brands.
