The fruit- and mustard-based condiment is a specialty of northern Italy

Mostarda is a condiment made from fruits such as cherries, apricots and oranges preserved in a sweet and spicy mustard-flavored syrup. The ingredient originated in northern Italy and is part of the growing interest in regional Italian cuisine. 14% of the population is familiar with mostarda, which can be found at mostly fine-dining and ethnic independent concepts.
