Foodservice consultant Andrew Young dies

NEW YORK International foodservice consultant and restaurant operator Andrew Young died when a small airplane he was traveling in crashed during a thunderstorm in eastern Maryland. Young, who was 51, was on his way to Pinehurst, N.C., with friends for a golfing vacation.

After founding the New York-based Andrew Young & Co. in 1990, Young expanded his consulting business around the world and developed projects in more than 20 countries. His clients included Gundel in Budapest, Hungary; MonteÕs Sloane Street, London; ITT Sheraton, Brussels Belgium, London, and Tel Aviv; MLC Centre & Compass Real Estate Management, Sydney, Australia; and Disneyland, Anaheim, Calif.

During his 30-year career, Young also owned and operated restaurants, including El TeddyÕs in New York and Coffee Times, a small chain of New York coffee bars. He also worked with the late Jean-Louis Palladin at Palladin in New York in the 1990s.

Before opening his own firm, Young worked for such restaurant companies as Victoria Station; Restaurant Associates, where he was director of restaurant development; and the George Lang Corp., where he was a partner and director of operations.
