SPARTANBURG S.C. Denny’s Corp., parent to the largest family-dining brand, posted a 1.3-percent uptick in year-over-year same-store sales at its corporate owned and operated restaurants for the third quarter ended Sept. 26. The increase was driven by a 6-percent surge in check average that offset a 4.5-percent decline in guest traffic, the company said.
The company noted that it was up against difficult year-earlier comparisons, when corporate restaurants recorded a 4.2-percent same-store sales jump that reflected a 3.7-percent increase in check average and a 0.6-percent gain in guest traffic.
On its latest result, Denny’s president and chief executive, Nelson Marchioli, said “proactive management” of the chain’s menu and promotions helped to drive sales despite a “challenging revenue and cost environment.”
Denny’s ended the third quarter with 468 corporate restaurants and 1,071 franchised or licensed locations. Full quarterly results are expected Nov. 1.
