BK appoints social responsibility exec

MIAMI Burger King Corp. said it has named Ivette Diaz director of corporate social responsibility for the company.

In the newly created position, Diaz will serve as executive director of the Have It Your Way Foundation, Burger King’s charitable organization, and the BK Family Fund, overseeing all activities, fundraising efforts, grant applications and disbursement processes. The BK Family Fund provides immediate, short-term financial assistance to Burger King employees suffering emergency hardships.

Diaz also will be in charge of Burger King’s community affairs, including local sponsorships, activities and outreach efforts led by BKSM Cares, a employee-led community service organization.

She will report to Anne Chwat, executive vice president and general counsel.

Previously, Diaz worked at the Miami Herald Media Co., where she managed the company's community affairs and outreach programs. She also oversaw Herald Charities Inc., the Herald’s fundraising arm. Before the Herald, she worked at Miami Children's Hospital Foundation as director of marketing and community relations.

Diaz holds a master's in business administration from the University of Miami.
