OAK BROOK Ill. McDonald’s will give away a McSkillet Burrito this Thursday and Friday to customers who purchase a medium or large beverage as long as supplies of the new breakfast item last. The chain estimates that it will give away 2 million burritos, which normally sell for about $2.49 each.
In addition to the giveaway, customers at selected restaurants in Chicago and Los Angeles will see celebrity singers. Ciara, the Grammy-winning R&B singer, will go behind the counter at a Chicago McDonald’s, and Yolanda Perez will greet customers at a Los Angeles restaurant. A San Francisco radio station will do a live remote in that city from one restaurant.
The McSkillet Burrito, introduced in November 2007, combines scrambled eggs, sausage, skillet potatoes, a cheese medley, roasted red and green bell peppers, onions and salsa in a flour tortilla. McDonald’s officials have commented that the item seems to hold particularly strong appeal for the Hispanic market because of its spiciness.
