Danny Meyer starts service consultancy

NEW YORK Union Square Hospitality Group’s Danny Meyer has launched Hospitality Quotient, a consulting business aimed at improving customer service.

Long known for his emphasis on hospitality and customer service, the New York City restaurateur said the consultancy would offer classes and training programs to individuals, corporations and organizations in a variety of industries, not just restaurants.

"Hospitality applies and works in any customer-facing business,” said Meyer, whose restaurants include Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern and Shake Shack. “While outstanding products and excellent service will always be critically important elements in any successful organization, we have also learned that how you make your customers feel when they use our excellent products and services is what distinguishes one company from another.”

Meyer said Susan Salgado, director of USHG’s culture and learning department, would lead HQ as its managing director and program facilitator.

The classes will be offered in half-day and two-day packages. Half-day programs cost $425 per person, and the two-day series is $1,500 per person.

In 2006, Meyer wrote the book “Setting the Table,” which detailed the importance of customer service and its impact on USHG’s success.
