MIAMI Burger King Corp. is giving users of the social-networking Facebook site a chance to dump their friends for a free Whopper.
The burger chain released the “Whopper Sacrifice” application on Facebook at the first of the year, rewarding those who remove 10 of their Facebook “friends” with a coupon for a free burger. Each time a Facebook friend is dumped, the application sends a message to the dumpee that declares food is stronger than friendship.
Whopper Sacrifice was created by Burger King’s ad agency, Crispin Porter + Bogusky of Miami, which also crafted the Whopper Virgins and burger-scented cologne ads.
The application is available at whoppersacrifice.com and at Facebook. The Whopper Sacrifice application has been downloaded by about 15,000 users.
