BK adds beverages in dessert-line extension

MIAMI Burger King is adding several new cold beverages and treats as dessert choices, including three marketed in partnership with other brands.

The new limited-time options include the Oreo BK Sundae Shake, a thick shake with cookie crumbles served with an oversized trademarked BK Pipe Straw, starting June 4; an ICEE Float frozen drink in a berry flavor, debuting June 25 as part of Burger King’s summer movie promotions; and the Butterfinger Pie, starting July 2. A fourth product, the Sweet Mocha BK Joe Iced Coffee, is available now. Prices of the four products range from $1.49 to $2.39, varying by portion size.

Burger King also is testing soft-serve ice cream, including a Warm Brownie Sundae and a chocolate-dipped cone filled with vanilla soft serve, according to John Schaulfelberger, vice president of product marketing and innovation.

The burger chain's announcement of the new dessert choices follows Wendy’s extension of its Frosty treat line. The rival system now offers a Vanilla Frosty and a Frosty Float mixed with soda. McDonald’s is testing smoothies and syrup-flavored iced coffees.
