Arby's eliminates trans fats from fries

ATLANTA Arby's claims it has become the first national fast-food chain to eliminate trans fats from its French fries.

Franchisor Arby's Restaurant Group Inc. said it has completed the systemwide rollout of a nonhydrogenated corn-based fryer oil that cuts the trans-fat content per serving of chicken items or fries to less than 0.5 grams, or within the permitted definition of zero trans fat. However, a large order of the chain's Curly Fries still contains 1 gram of trans fat, versus 6 grams previously.

The franchisor owns more than 1,000 of the chain's nearly 3,600 restaurants.
