McDonald’s trims late-night menu

After midnight offerings will include popular foods like breakfast and Big Mac

McDonald’s is trimming its late-night menu to include eight of the chain’s most popular meals or category of foods, such as all-day breakfast.

The Chicago-based company said Thursday afternoon that the shortened menu is designed to improve speed. The pared-down menu debuts at stores April 30 and applies to restaurants in the U.S. that are open after midnight.

“We always want our customers’ experiences to be simple, smooth and delicious—any time of day,” the company said in a statement. “That means, day and night, we’re always looking for ways to serve them even better.”

The items available after midnight include the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder burgers, Chicken McNuggets, All-Day Breakfast, fries and other sides, sweets and treats like apple pie, Happy Meals and McCafé beverages. Items now available only before midnight include Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwiches, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, Filet-O-Fish and premium salads.

McDonald’s operates 14,000 restaurants across the U.S. It is unclear how many are open 24 hours, or past midnight. A McDonald’s spokeswoman could not be immediately reached for comment.

Update April 5, 2019: This article has been updated with additional information about the items on the late-night menu.
