NEW YORK Union Square Hospitality Group said Monday it had been selected to create a new restaurant for Ian Schrager’s Gramercy Park Hotel in lower Manhattan, as well as run all of the hotel’s food and beverage operations, including room service, banquets and private events.
The new restaurant, which USHG spokeswoman Alison Buckley said would be Italian, is expected to open in the fall. It will be USHG’s first full-service restaurant since opening The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art in 2005 and will be designed by renowned architect David Rockwell.
Danny Meyer, USHG’s founder, said he is “thrilled to have the opportunity to create a brand-new restaurant” for the hotel and hopes it “will become a beloved gathering place for the entire community as well as the hotel’s guests.”
Schrager noted, "I am elated to have Danny Meyer create a signature restaurant at the Gramercy Park Hotel. I consider him one of the best restaurateurs in the world and have always wanted to do a project with him.”
USHG operates such restaurant concepts as Union Square Café, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Tabla, Blue Smoke/Jazz Standard, The Modern and Shake Shack. In addition, the restaurant group also operates Hudson Yards Catering, which, in partnership with onsite contractor Aramark Corp., runs several foodservice operations at Citi Field, the just-opened ballpark for the New York Mets baseball team.
