School officials: use of receipts with nutrition data to grow

News

CHULA VISTA Calif. Officials of the Sweetwater Union High School District based here said they anticipated expanded use of technology that summarizes key nutrition data for foodservice purchases on register receipts.

The district since September has used at its Chula Vista High School campus nutritional database and receipt printing technology from Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Nutricate, which interfaces with the school's Maitre'D point-of-sale software from Posera. The setup is being used by the school's mobile coffee cart and provides students or other consumers with the calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates metrics tied to their purchases, along with tips on healthy eating and exercise.

"The Nutricate receipt has significantly impacted our students and the choices they are making about their daily food intake," said Nancy Stewart, food services director for the 32-campus district with students in grades 7 through 12. "We expect to see increased interest in nutrition and further adoption of the receipt in schools as it continues to affect the lives of our students."

Reseller and integrator Team Business Solutions of Irvine, Calif., worked with the district on the deployment.
