East meets West as restaurants in China prepare for Olympics

BEIJING —With the Summer Olympics coming next year, China is gearing up for the influx of tourists by implementing a rating service to determine which restaurants here serve the most Western-style foods.

According to Reuters, the ratings will consider the foods’ authenticity and the establishments’ standards of service, hygiene and management. All ratings will be conducted by the end of this year, the Beijing Western Food Association said. Despite growth in Beijing’s restaurant scene, the quality of Western food has been lacking, according to the report.
