Restaurant industry keeps all eyes on unemployment

Unemployment trends continue to be one of the most watched economic indicators for restaurant operators today. When will national unemployment rates drop? When will consumers feel more comfortable in their jobs and begin to spend again? And how can companies recruit talent in this new environment, when employers and employees are treading carefully?

Nation’s Restaurant News looked at the People Report’s first quarter Workforce Index, which shows that the restaurant industry has perhaps hit its bottom, as the index hit the highest level since the U.S. economy began a steep decline in October 2008. Read the full story.
