Michelle Obama to speak to NRA board on childhood obesity

First lady Michelle Obama will address the National Restaurant Association’s board of directors at their fall meeting Monday at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

The first lady, who is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m., is expected to discuss her “Let’s Move!” campaign, which is aimed at finding comprehensive solutions to combat childhood obesity.

The White House said she will call upon foodservice leaders to provide more nutritious food options and improved information to help consumers make healthy choices when dining out.

“We’re very pleased the first lady will be able to address many of the leading restaurateurs around the country,” said Scott DeFife, the NRA’s executive vice president for policy and government affairs. “We expect this to be an important part of the dialogue with the first lady about the positive role that the restaurant industry can play in helping the country combat the problem of childhood obesity that she has focused on in her Let’s Move initiative.”
