Outback

Outback Steakhouse is a casual-dining steakhouse chain headquartered in Tampa, Fla. The restaurant chain’s design is inspired by the Australian Outback.

Outback Steakhouse was founded in 1988 by hospitality veterans Chris Sullivan, Robert Basham, Tim Gannon and Trudy Cooper. It was the first restaurant owned by what is now Bloomin’ Brands, Inc., previously known as OSI Restaurant Partners.

In addition to seven steak cuts, the Outback menu features chicken, ribs, seafood and pasta. Its signature menu item is the Bloomin’ Onion, an onion cut to “bloom” open, deep fried and served with mayonnaise-horseradish sauce.

In 2019, Bloomin’ Brands opened the first fast-casual restaurant offshoot of Outback, Aussie Grill by Outback, in a shopping mall in Brandon, Fla. The first standalone Aussie Grill opened in April 2020.
