Welcome to the 2018 Top 200 Sourcebook

This is part of the Nation’s Restaurant News annual Top 200 report, a proprietary ranking of the foodservice industry’s largest restaurant chains and parent companies.

Welcome to the Top 200 sourcebook.

On the 45th anniversary of Nation’s Restaurant News’ comprehensive chain ranking, we decided to pace things a little differently. First we are launching the Top 200 restaurant chains all together in one jam-packed place (aka the sourcebook).

In this report, you’ve got the chain sales, unit and market share data you’ve long counted on NRN for, but now it’s all together for easier comparisons. You’ll find broader analysis spanning established chains and chains on the rise.

Next up, in July, we will be profiling the fastest-growing Top 200 chains. Tune in then to find out how these brands are outperforming the competition in a saturated market.

Then, in August, we are turning to the corporations that run the Top 200 chains. These Top 200 companies are ranked by foodservice revenue.

Also in August, we’ll be identifying the next generation of chains poised to burst into the Top 200.

We add new stories and data year round, including the latest same-store sales numbers from public restaurant chains.

Also new this year:

• A microsite to allow you to explore the Top 200 universe on your own with custom filters, sorting and graphs.

While we’ve made updates to the Top 200, some things won’t ever change. The editorial team remains committed to accurate data collection and informed, researched analysis.

I’d especially like to commend Alan J. Liddle, NRN’s senior data and events editor, for his unflinching pursuit of accuracy.
