Thai food

Seeing an uptick in Pad Thai and chicken curries? Thai food was ranked by DoorDash customers as the best new cuisine they tried in 2019, so it’s a pretty safe bet that Thai food will be one of the most popular go-to cuisines for takeout next year.

“We’re seeing that our customers are exploring more diverse flavors when ordering food, as seen by the increase in appetite for Thai and 30% saying that they typically eat 5-10 different cuisines per month,” a DoorDash spokesperson said.

Side dishes

While we usually think of just ordering main dishes or entrees for our takeout meals, don’t discount the power of the side dish. Over 98% of Door Dash users say they order side dishes with their meals like hash browns (which were up 1,200%) and Brussels sprouts (orders were up 1,280%).

“We believe sides are on the rise as they're helping our customers round out their meals on this exploration of new cuisines and dishes, and are an easy add on to expanding the meal experience,” a DoorDash spokesperson said.

As more customers are opting to eat at home rather than go out, they’re treating takeout meals like they would a meal at a restaurant. And what’s a meal out without dessert? Delivered sweets are on the rise, particularly molten chocolate cakes (where order were up 1,350%).
