The 50: The biggest April restaurant news from Chipotle, Panera, Taco Bell, more

Rounding up April’s major headlines from the 50 biggest restaurant companies in America

While thousands of restaurant concepts across the U.S. contribute to the ebbs and flows of restaurant industry news, it’s the major chains that really set the pace for where the industry is headed.

As such, Nation’s Restaurant News is introducing a new monthly episode of its podcast Take-Away with Sam Oches that will cover the biggest news from the 50 largest restaurant companies in America. Each month, The 50 will feature a conversation between NRN editor-in-chief Sam Oches and managing editor Leigh Anne Zinsmeister, who will discuss the biggest headlines that month and what they mean in the bigger restaurant-industry picture.

In this month’s debut episode, you’ll learn more about April’s headlines, including:

  • CEOs of major chains like Red Lobster and Denny’s announcing their departures
  • Chipotle’s launch of a $50 million venture fund to invest in “strategically aligned” companies
  • Popeyes’ expansion plans, including 200-plus new units in 2022 and an emphasis on double drive thrus
