Counting down the 200 largest restaurant chains in America: No. 50 - No. 1

Each year, the annual NRN Top 200 report ranks the country’s restaurant brands by domestic systemwide sales, revealing an in-depth look at the health of the industry and the performance of its biggest players. Together, these 200 brands represent $313.5 billion in Latest-Year U.S. sales.

In this gallery, take a look at the 50 brands at the top of the list, which range in annual domestic sales from $1.6 billion to $40.4 billion and represent major brands from every segment and menu format.

This year’s report also saw a rare rankings reshuffle among the top 10 brands, as Subway slipped to No. 6, from No. 4 a year ago, making way for Taco Bell and Burger King to each rise one spot for No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

At the top of the list chains are big — and getting bigger. In fact, the top 3 chains — McDonald’s, Starbucks and Chick-fil-A — had incremental sales gains of $1.9 billion, $1.8 billion and $2.2 billion, respectively. For comparison, those incremental gains were more than the individual systemwide sales of about 80% of chains in the Top 200.

Here’s a look at the performance of the country’s largest restaurant brands.
