Phillips Gourmet, a leader in value-added mushroom products, announces that its Phillips Blended Beef will be available starting in November. The latest Phillips development provides an answer to the growing demand for a more flexible product to use in delicious, earth-friendly, and health-conscious menu items.

Each 5-lb. pack of blended beef is 60 percent ground beef, 40 percent mushrooms, and seasonings. The mushrooms in the blended beef have already been cooked and moisture-reduced allowing for each chef’s entree to hold up in whatever form it takes — tacos, meatballs, or even lasagna.

“This product was the next step for us because it allows chefs to create different meals that are healthier, eco-friendly and delicious,” Phillips Gourmet General Manager Rick Angelucci said. “There are many people out there who won’t eat fake meat. They want the real thing, but at the same time, want something that reduces their calorie and fat intake. It meets those needs and helps save the planet’s resources.”

●      Lower carbon footprint. According to a 2017 study titled “The Mushroom Sustainability Story,” to produce one pound of mushrooms, requires only 1.8 gallons of water, 1.0 kilowatt hours of electricity and generates 0.7 pounds of CO2-equivalent emissions. They also require less land due to growing in vertically-stacked beds. One pound of blended beef saves nearly 800 gallons of water.

●      Healthier plate. The mushroom blend (over all-beef) trims calories and cholesterol by 38 percent, calories from fat and saturated fat by 40 percent and adds a much-needed serving of vegetables and nutrients. Mushrooms are full of health benefits, such as potassium, copper and B vitamins.

The Phillips Blended Beef product release comes one year after a soft launch of the BAM! Burger™, a 4 oz. frozen blended burger patty. The burger has experienced success across multiple channels: business and industry, education and healthcare. Phillips Gourmet rounds out the product line with Blend-Ready Mushrooms — the same moisture-reduced mushrooms that are in the burger and chub for self-blending.
