Wendy’s narrows loss in 3Q

Company points to menu innovations, brand revamp

The Wendy’s Company reported on Thursday that it significantly narrowed its loss in its Sept. 29-ended third quarter, attributing continued momentum to brand transformation efforts and menu innovations like the popular Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger. In an ongoing refranchising effort, the company has sold 118 restaurants to date, generating $66 million. Wendy’s operates or franchises more than 6,500 restaurants in the U.S. and 28 countries and U.S. territories worldwide.

NET LOSS

Result: -$1.9 million, or 0.0 cents per share
(from -$26.2 million, or 7 cents per share)

REVENUE

Result: $640.8 million
% Increase: 0.7% (from $636.3 million)

SAME-STORE SALES

% Increase at company-owned North American units: 3.2%


% Increase at franchised North American units: 3.1%
