Papa John’s 2Q profit rises 20%

Company attributes increase to same-store sales growth

Papa John’s International Inc. reported that net income for its June 30-ended second quarter increased 20 percent on same-store sales growth at home and abroad. During the quarter, the 4,252-unit Louisville, Ky.-based pizza chain opened its 1,000th location in its international division and placed first in the American Customer Satisfaction Index for the 12th time in the past 14 years.

NET INCOME

Result: $17.2 million, or 77 cents per share
% Increase: 20% (from $14.3 million, or 59 cents per share)

REVENUE

Result: $349.2 million
% Increase: 9.6% (from $318.6 million)

SAME-STORE SALES

% Increase at North American units: 3.4%
% Increase at international units: 6.8%
