Subway introduces sauces, sandwiches and new SubKrunch topping

Restaurant brand returns barbecue sauce to menu and debuts crunchy-bit add-on

Subway is debuting three new sandwiches that feature the addition of sauces and new crunchy additions to the menu, the company said Tuesday.

Subway, which has Miami and Shelton, Conn., corporate headquarters, is introducing SubKrunch, a new crunchy topping for sandwiches, wraps and salads.

“These crispy bits were developed to add an audible crunch to every bite, coated with a savory seasoning and then fried to perfection,” the company said.

"Subway's new menu update is all about great flavor at a great value and giving our guests new ways to take their footlong subs and snacks to the next level," said Paul Fabre, Subway’s senior vice president of culinary innovation, in a statement.

Among the three sauces that Subway introduced with this menu change include the return of Honey Mustard BBQ and the debut of Cheesy Garlic.

“After a three-year hiatus, Subway's sweet and tangy barbecue sauce is back by popular demand on menus nationwide, with familiar hints of hickory smoke, black pepper, red pepper, and warm spices,” the company said. Subway also unveiled a new Cheddar Cheese sauce, a creamy blend of sharp cheddar cheese, American cheese and a hint of parmesan.

The company said the Cheddar Cheese sauce paired well with the Auntie Anne's Footlong Pretzel side item and the Footlong Dippers, which were introduced in June.

The new sauces and toppings are used on three new Subway Series sandwiches – Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken, Spicy Nacho Chicken and Cheesy Garlic Steak – that the brand is introducing:

  • Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken starts with rotisserie-style chicken and is topped with Monterey Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, all drizzled in Honey Mustard and the barbecue sauce.
  • Spicy Nacho Chicken features rotisserie-style chicken, topped with green peppers, red onions, jalapeños, SubKrunch topping, and Cheddar Cheese and Creamy Sriracha sauces.
  • Cheesy Garlic Steak begins with sliced steak topped with green peppers, red onions, and SubKrunch topping, and features Roasted Garlic Aioli and Cheddar Cheese sauces.

In addition, the company said Subway restaurants are also featuring Doritos Sweet & Tangy BBQ chips, available for a limited time.

Subway has nearly 37,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries and territories.
