Starbucks to introduce Oleato drinks in the U.S.

The olive oil-infused coffee drinks launch this week

Though he may no longer be CEO, Howard Schultz’s last culinary invention for Starbucks is coming to the U.S. this week. Oleato beverages — cold-pressed olive oil-infused coffee — will be available at Starbucks Reserve Roasteries on March 23, and in 75 Seattle and 475 Los Angeles area stores on March 27.

The beverages will also launch at the original Starbucks store on March 23.

The drink was initially launched in Italy in late February.

“Oleato represents the next revolution in coffee that brings together an alchemy of nature’s finest ingredients — Starbucks arabica coffee beans and Partanna cold pressed extra virgin olive oil,” Schultz said in a statement at the time. “Today I feel just as inspired as I did 40 years ago, Oleato has opened our eyes to fresh new possibilities and a transformational way to enjoy our daily coffee.”

Partanna is a brand of Sicilian cold-pressed olive oil that Schultz was introduced to during a trip to Sicily, when he also began partaking in the Italian tradition of imbibing a spoonful of olive oil every morning before coffee.

The beverages available at select Roastery locations in Seattle, Chicago, and New York City include:

  • Oleato Caffè Latte: Starbucks Reserve Espresso and creamy oat milk infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil.
  • Oleato Iced Cortado: Starbucks Reserve Espresso, orange piloncillo syrup, a dash of orange bitters and oat milk, infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil. It is then served over ice and finished with an orange peel.
  • Oleato Golden Foam Cold Brew: Starbucks Reserve Cold Brew lightly sweetened with vanilla bean syrup, finished with Partanna extra virgin olive oil infused cold foam.
  • Starbucks Oleato Golden Foam Espresso Martini: Starbucks Reserve signature Espresso Martini finished with a layer of Golden Foam, a fusion of fior di latte (sweet cream) and Partanna extra virgin olive oil.

Plus, Starbucks is introducing The Oleato Tasting Experience: A barista-led, multi-sensory experience that showcases the “alchemy of aroma, flavor, and texture unique to Oleato,” according to the company. This experience is only available at Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Seattle and Chicago and the Starbucks Reserve store in the Empire State Building. Reservations can be booked in advance at StarbucksReserve.com.

The beverages available at the traditional locations in Seattle and Los Angeles include Oleato Caffè Latte, Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso, and Oleato Golden Foam Cold Brew.

Customers can also purchase Partanna extra virgin olive oil at Starbucks stores and Starbucks Reserve locations where Oleato beverages are offered.
