On Extra Serving, KFC Global’s head of food innovation and technology appeals to trends in 135 countries

On this week’s Extra Serving podcast, Ana Maria Basurto, head of food innovation and technology for KFC’s global division, shares how her team shapes and supports the company’s 22,000 restaurants in 135 countries and territories.

Basurto leads the team to maintain standards and products across the globe, including new products that are tested in far-flung internal markets – like a Chizza that’s a pizza with a fried chicken breast as the crust.

Basurto’s team at the Plano, Texas, research and development kitchen includes: Jacinta Pounsett, senior scientist; Gaana Nagaraj, food innovation technologist; and Robert Merrill, associate manager for food innovation and technology. They also rely on franchise operators around the world to produce and test ideas.

KFC_Chicken_Nachos.jpegBasurto joined KFC parent Yum! Brands Inc. in 2000. She has worked in all of Yum’s brands in her 19 years at the company, including Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
