Menu Tracker: New items from Applebee’s, Del Taco, and Potbelly

Plus innovation at Cicis Pizza, El Torito, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, Jamba, Lion’s Choice, Papa Murphy’s, Pieology, PJ’s Coffee, Schlotzsky’s, Smokey Bones, Velvet Taco, Yampa Sandwich Company, and Zoup! Eatery

Spicy food remains polarizing. Some people love it, and some really don’t, but for those who do like their chiles and hot sauce, their threshold for it is increasing in many cases. So Schlotzsky’s is taking their signature hot sauce and adding it to their signature sourdough for that extra kick. Smokey Bones, for its part is sprinkling crushed spicy Takis rolled tortillas onto some of its menu items.

Pieology has a new pizza named for Calabria, the region of Italy known for the spiciest food, and that pie doesn’t just have spicy pepperoni, but jalapeño peppers and Mike’s Hot Honey.

Zoup! Eatery is using hot honey now too, by the way.

Cicis Pizza, for its part, has rolled out a giant Piezilla that was originally conceived of by a franchisee and is intended to feed around 15 people, Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana has a springtime special with bacon and spinach, while take-and-bake chain Papa Murphy’s is rolling out calzones.

Jamba has new dragon fruit items, Applebee’s has new $6 cocktails, and Lion’s Choice has a crunchy fudge sundae.

Potbelly’s latest cookie is flavored with lemon and studded with cheesecake.

El Torito is offering a “Throwback” menu with legacy favorites, and Del Taco is bringing back its carnitas.

Yampa Sandwich Company, a six-unit outfit out of Colorado, has a burrata salad, PJ’s Coffee is making its own energy drinks (and partnering with Red Bull for some others), and Velvet Taco’s Weekly Taco Feature has pimento cheese.
