For the first time in eight years, McDonald’s is adding a line of new baked goods to its core menu: an Apple Fritter, a Blueberry Muffin and a Cinnamon Roll.
The three new menu items join the Baked Apple Pie and Chocolate Chip Cookie on the McCafe menu, which also includes an assortment of hot and cold coffee beverages. The last baked good added to McDonald’s core menu was the introduction of cookies in 2012.
Like all McCafe Bakery items, the three new baked goods will be available all day at participating McDonald’s locations nationwide starting Oct. 28.
Though the baked items are not part of the core breakfast menu, McDonald's said the "new additions give fans the option of a sweet" treat to have at breakfast or any time of the day.
"We’re continuing our breakfast innovation by adding tasty new sweet options with our new McCafé Bakery lineup," Linda VanGosen, vice president of brand and menu strategy at McDonald’s USA, said in a statement. “We know our customers deserve a break now more than ever, and are excited to give them another reason to visit their favorite breakfast destination by offering delicious flavors they crave, any time of the day.”
Giving fans an all day breakfast treat comes as the All Day Breakfast menu has been gone for months. The Chicago-based quick-service chain halted the platform and trimmed other items from the menu at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce complexities during the move to off-premise services. All Day Breakfast remains on pause. Other items removed in April have since returned including the Chocolate Chip Cookie.
Here’s how the brand described the three new baked goods. McDonald's did not provide prices, saying prices vary by region.
-Apple Fritter: a fritter made with cinnamon and apples. It is fried and drizzled with a glaze icing.
-Blueberry Muffin: a soft muffin baked with blueberries and topped with streusel crumbs.
-Cinnamon Roll: a buttery and flaky pastry layered with cinnamon and drizzled with cream cheese icing.
