Role to integrate digital marketing and IT for Bloomin’ Brands

Donagh Herlihy has been named executive vice president digital and chief information officer for Bloomin’ Brands Inc., the company said this week.

The position combines digital marketing and information technology roles for the first time, a move that will help the parent of the Outback Steakhouse chain build on its use of technology, as well as its multi-brand expansion overseas, the company said.

“Donagh’s expertise integrating IT with marketing will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our digital marketing and technology applications,” Elizabeth Smith, the Tampa, Fla.-based chain’s chief executive, said in a statement. “In addition, he has united geographically dispersed country-led organizations into single global business units for two complex brands. His insight will guide us as we implement our long-term strategic growth plan internationally.”

Donagh served previously at Avon since 2008, where he led e-commerce and global information technology strategy and operations. Before that, he was chief information officer for the Wrigley Company.

Bloomin’ Brands operates and franchises more than 1,500 restaurants under five casual-dining brands, including Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and Roy’s.

This story has been revised to reflect the following correction:

Correction: Sept. 4, 2014
An earlier version of this story mischaracterized the executive vice president digital and chief information officer role. Bloomin' Brands Inc. has had a CIO position in the past.
