The 2015 Golden Chain Award winners talked about the criticism of the restaurant industry in interviews conducted by previous award winners in August. Here's what they had to say.
The winners are pictured here, and in the rest of the gallery, at the 2015 MUFSO conference in September.
"I think the image, any image you want to improve starts first with communication and to some extent transparency, right? Making sure that people understand how you source your ingredients, how you prepare their products, and then what’s the impact that’s going to have on the consumer I think is a big deal."
"I think outside of the government, the restaurant industry is one of the largest, if not the largest, employers in the country and the largest employer of teenagers. I don’t see that changing any time soon. We offer a tremendous opportunity to grow, and as an industry, we probably should tell more of those stories more often."
"We are one heck of a job creation, career creation, and entrepreneurial creation machine. … People may have warned you of our industry, but many, many, many people choose it as an option, better than other options that are available to them, even if they're ahead of most in the place they start in life."
"[It all depends] on whether you are a people development company or not. Actually, at Panda...we are a people development organization and only focus on certain food for our guests."
"When you think about what the industry does for our economy, be it providing jobs and growth or just giving back to improve the lives of people that live in our communities, I just think it’s a great industry."
