Squarespace has acquired Tock for more than $400 million

Ecommerce platform Squarespace buys reservations system Tock for more than $400 million

Acquisition adds more than 7,000 operators to its service

Squarespace is continuing its mission to provide a full suite of services to its clients with the purchase on Wednesday of Tock, a reservation platform that allows for dynamic pricing as well as takeout and delivery orders.

The new acquisition follows New York City-based Squarespace’s integration in 2019 of appointment scheduling platform Acuity Scheduling and Unfold, an app that helps users add different design elements to their social media stories.

Nick Kokonas, who co-founded and co-owns the Alinea Group in Chicago with chef Grant Achatz, founded Tock in 2014 to allow him to pre-sell reservations at Alinea. He has since expanded its capabilities, particularly as the pandemic closed dining rooms, to allow scheduling of takeout services without using third-party delivery companies.

Squarespace founder and CEO Anthony Casalena said he sees a large and growing ecommerce market in restaurant and hospitality and hopes to expand Tock’s footprint beyond the 7,000 operators in 200 cities in 30 countries across the world.
