7 things for the restaurant world to look forward to in 2017

NRN’s senior editor Lisa Jennings shares restaurant initiatives to be excited about in the new year.

Let’s be honest, 2016 wasn’t a great year.

Despite an improving economy, restaurant same-store sales were weak at best for most of the year and there was talk of another recession.

Brexit played havoc with the stock market. A bitter and divisive presidential campaign kept consumers at home, and low grocery prices proved stiff competition.

Labor costs kept climbing, and though regulatory pressures may lift somewhat in 2017, a fair measure of uncertainty remains, hindering efforts to plan for the future.

We lost David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, and Harambe. Brad and Angelina broke up.

The good news: Soon 2017 will bring a fresh start. Here are seven things to look forward to in 2017.
