Famous Dave’s parent company BBQ Holdings announced in mid-March its intention to acquire Mexican fine-dining brand Barrio Queen, a $28 million deal that made for BBQ Holdings’ largest acquisition and third in the space of a year.
Denny’s announced in early May that it had agreed to acquire 52-unit Keke’s Breakfast Café for $82 million, giving the company a growing foothold in the expanding segment.

Private-equity firm Centre Partners completed its acquisition of Captain D’s seafood again in late May. New-York based Centre Partners had initially sold the brand to Sentinel capital Partners in 2017.

Private equity firm and Modern Market Eatery parent company Butterfly Equity announced in early August the intent to acquire fast-casual chain Qdoba Mexican Eats for an unspecified amount, merging Modern Restaurant Concepts (comprised of Modern Market Eatery and Lemonade) with Qdoba into one fast-casual restaurant platform.
MTY Food Group, parent to Papa Murphy’s, acquired Famous Dave’s parent BBQ Holdings, the company announced in early August, following the latter company’s acquisition of Barrio Queen earlier in the year.
New York City-based frozen yogurt chain 16 Handles was acquired by company franchisee Neil Hershman and YouTube star Danny Duncan for an undisclosed amount, the company announced in late August.

Just this week, Applebee’s and IHOP parent company Dine Brands Global, Inc. announced the intention to acquire fast-casual Mexican chain Fuzzy’s Taco Shop from NRD Capital subsidiary Experiential Brands LLC for $80 million.
