Ugly sweaters and burrito gift wrap: Restaurants roll out holiday gift items

Taco Bell, Starbucks and more brands look to generate revenue with non-food merchandise

Special holiday menus featuring cozy peppermint, gingerbread and hot chocolate flavors are nothing new. But some restaurant chains are going beyond festive limited-edition food and drinks to sell branded merchandise for stuffing stockings and to get the most marketing opportunity out of this holiday season.

Last year, KFC sold “finger lickin’ good” ornaments and apparel. This year, restaurant chains like Taco Bell, Chipotle and Burger King are joining in, offering onesies, wrapping paper, and other whimsical gifts for the fast-food or coffee fan who strongly identifies with a favorite brand. Many of these limited-time offerings have already sold out.

Here’s a look at some of this season’s holiday offerings.
