NRN video of the week: Behold the McHive

What might just be the world’s smallest McDonald’s also doubles as a fully functioning beehive

It’s all about the little details for the biggest chain in NRN’s Top 200.

As part of McDonald’s Sweden’s sustainability work many restaurants in the country host beehives on their rooftops. And to honor those initiatives NORD DDB, McDonald's creative agency, created what might just be the world’s smallest McDonald’s, which doubles as a fully functioning beehive.

Bee customers enter the hive through a mini main entrance and have the option of dining outdoors should they choose. The “McHive” was designed and built by award winning set designer Nicklas Nilsson, and was auctioned out during a charity fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“We have a lot of really devoted franchisees who contribute to our sustainability work, and it feels good that we can use our size to amplify such a great idea as beehives on the rooftops,” said Christoffer Rönnblad, marketing director, McDonald’s Sweden.
